Sanjay Manjrekar has stated that selecting Team India’s top three players for the T20 World Cup 2022 is exceedingly difficult at the moment.
The selectors have chosen a 15-man Indian squad for the Asia Cup, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates from August 27 to September 11.
While KL Rahul is expected to bat at the top of the order with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli is expected to bat at No. 3.
I Like The Idea Of Rishabh Pant Opening The Batting: Sanjay Manjrekar
During an appearance on Sports 18’s ‘Sports Over the Top,’ Manjrekar was asked who his top three players would be if the T20 World Cup squad was chosen today. He responded:
“Not answering that. It’s a tough one, really tough because there are some serious contenders there. That’s why these matches before the T20 World Cup are so important. KL Rahul has to be part of the T20 team. So has to be Virat Kohli just because of the stage and the pressure that comes in. It’s going to be a tough one.
We have seen Suryakumar Yadav bat in the top three, and we have seen Rishabh Pant bat in the top three. These are all very exciting options, so let’s see how it goes. I love the idea of the Rishabh Pant opening with Rohit Sharma. So that is something I am excited about, the possibility is there.”
In a recent couple of T20I series, the Men in Blue have attempted Pant and Yadav as openers. However, given that regular opener, Rahul is back in the mix, they may abandon that attempt. Pant scored 27 runs in the two T20Is he played against England. The Indian team management has most likely abandoned the concept of beginning with him, given that he was not retained at the top of the order against the West Indies, and Yadav was forced to fill that role instead.
