India captain Rohit Sharma on Tuesday mentioned he didn’t need Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka to get run out after the batter had backed up too far on approach to a gallant hundred within the first ODI in Guwahati on Tuesday. Riding Virat Kohli‘s 73rd worldwide hundred and half-centuries from Rohit and Shubman Gill, India posted an imposing 373 for seven after being requested to bat first.

Sri Lanka had been by no means within the hunt after shedding half their aspect for 161, however Shanaka (108 not out off 88 balls) stood tall amid the ruins along with his battle knock.

“We didn’t use variations during the first 10 overs. (With the bat) I think I’m doing the basics well, I think I should bat higher in the T20Is, but the team needs me to bat at 6 with Bhanuka at 5.”
