The Department of Defense launched the National Defense Science and Technology Strategy, or NDSTS, in the present day. Guided by the National Defense Strategy, the NDSTS articulates the science and know-how priorities, targets, and investments of the Department and makes suggestions on the way forward for the protection analysis and engineering enterprise.

“To achieve the objectives of the NDS we must leverage critical emerging technologies,” stated Heidi Shyu, DoD Chief Technology Officer. “This Strategy helps us make carefully crafted decisions that bolster our comparative advantages rather than engaging in wasteful technology races. We will emphasize developing asymmetric capabilities that will help ensure our national security over the long term.”

The Strategy will execute alongside three traces of effort:

• Focus on the Joint Mission by investing in data methods and establishing processes for rigorous, menace knowledgeable evaluation that can higher allow the Department to make knowledgeable decisions in its science and know-how investments.
• Create and area capabilities at velocity and scale by fostering a extra vibrant protection innovation ecosystem, accelerating the transition of latest know-how into the sector, and speaking successfully inside and outdoors the Department.
• Ensure the foundations for analysis and improvement by persevering with and increasing upon our efforts to recruit, retain, and domesticate expertise; revitalizing our bodily infrastructure; upgrading our digital infrastructure; and nurturing stronger collaboration throughout all stakeholders.

The NDSTS will proceed to emphasise the 14 Critical Technology Areas detailed within the DoD CTO’s Strategic Vision. Also, worldwide allies and business companions are integral to the Department’s analysis and improvement efforts, and the Strategy seeks to develop alternatives to co-research and co-develop with them. The Department will proceed to leverage the broad innovation ecosystem throughout academia, Federally-funded analysis and improvement facilities (FFRDCs), college affiliated analysis facilities (UARCs), DoD laboratories, nationwide laboratories, non-profit entities, industrial business, and different Government departments and businesses.  The unclassified model of the Strategy might be accessed here.
