A re-evaluation of fall sports impacting Fort Knox High School was issued Friday by the Department of Education Activity, but football and soccer games still are prohibited.
“We have completed an in-depth review and analysis of health and safety considerations for fall sports, examining recent information from the KHSAA, sport-specific safety plans, parent feedback and input from our garrison command partners,” the statement said.
Specific directives were announced for all fall sports offered by the school:
• Competition cheerleading: Begin conditioning and individual technique/choreography work.
• Cross country: Continue as currently operating with practices and competition.
• Football: Begin conditioning, individual drills and skill development. There will be no games.
• Golf: Continue as currently operating with practices and competition.
• Soccer: Begin conditioning, individual drills and skill development. There will be no games.
• Volleyball: Begin conditioning, training and competitions with other schools.
DoDEA stressed its commitment to interscholastic sports and the potential benefits that athletics offer students, the statement said.
“During these unprecedented times, our first consideration must always be the health and safety of students, employees, and our military communities,” it said. “While this is not the outcome many of us hoped for, it does offer student-athletes the opportunity to benefit from many of the activities they would normally experience while mitigating risk to an acceptable level.”
DoDEA said school leaders, athletic directors and coaches will continue to monitor and assess all sports and activities as to ensure health and safety remain a primary focus.
These standards apply to Fort Campbell High School as well as Fort Knox.
