EAST LIVERPOOL — Donald Lee Theiss, of East Liverpool, passed away Sunday morning, August 9, 2020 while surrounded by his loving family at the Orchards of East Liverpool. He was 91.

Born in Chester, June 10, 1929, he was a son of the late Martin G. and Margaret E. Danley Carpenter. A resident of this area all his life, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954 where he received the Good Conduct Medal. He returned to this area and made his career in the retail and grocery business. For many years, he was a co-owner and meat cutter at the Midland IGA.

Christian by faith, he was a member of the Chester High School Class of 1948. A member of the Boy Scouts of America for nearly 80 years, he was a volunteer and leader at Troops 41 and 34. He was active at camp, where he was the 7 Ranges Campmaster, head cook, trading post director and Adult Leadership Trainer. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He attended Philmont Scout Camp, Northern Tier High Adventure Camp and the Scout Jamborees. He was most proud of his time at Green Bar Troop Leadership Training at 7 Ranges where he taught both scouts and adults. He was also active at Camp McKinley.

Above all things in life, Don loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Margaret Sim Theiss, at home. The couple married November 24, 1956. There are two children: a daughter, Ann Marie Theiss-Inge of East Liverpool, and a son, Donald Francis Theiss and his wife, Lynne, of Ellicott City, Maryland. He will also be sadly missed by his two grandchildren, Ian F. S. Theiss and Allison Inge.

Also left to cherish his memory are his sister-in-law Mary Sim and her children, Rose Turner, Charlie Sim and Frank Sim. Donald’s brother-in-law, James Sim, preceded him in death.

Donald had four siblings: Roberta Ann “Bobbi” Theiss, Thelma Franczek, Deloris “Lottie” Harmon and Richard Theiss.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Dawson Funeral Home Wednesday at 12 noon. Friends may visit two hours prior to the service. Masks and social distancing are required.
