The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) is seeking to carry lighters and sports activities items below the standard norms, a transfer aimed toward containing the import of sub-standard items and boosting the home trade. The different merchandise for which these norms may be issued embody potable water bottles and insulated flasks, resin-treated compressed wooden laminates and wood furnishings.

The division has floated draft management orders for all these merchandise after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

“Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has prepared a draft quality control order in respect of lighters in consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards in order to bring it under mandatory BIS certification keeping in view the human safety and for ensuring the optimum quality of product,” based on one of many workplace memorandums of the division.

The gadgets, below these orders, can’t be produced, offered/traded, imported and stocked except they bear the BIS mark.

The DPIIT is within the means of formulating QCO for varied merchandise.

These orders are issued by the division in consonance with the WTO Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) for industries falling below its area.
