Dehradun: In a crucial meeting held between the sports officials of Uttarakhand and former sportspersons, several points relating to the draft of the state’s new sports policy were discussed. According to the department, it was suggested during the meet that local sportspersons should be provided reservation in state government jobs and that their designation should depend upon their achievements as athletes.
Besides, a proposal to construct ten outdoor and five indoor stadiums in each district was also put forward. Additionally, the new sports policy may include a 5% fixed reservation for athletes in state government degree colleges and universities. It has also been suggested to reimburse athletes for the sports equipment they buy. The sports department has also been suggested to spend 1% of the state’s GDP on sports. “The new sports policy will ensure that the state doesn’t face a talent drain and the athletes get proper facilities to polish their skills,” said state sports minister Arvind Pandey.
