MARSHALL — Construction to help alleviate stormwater flooding in the neighborhood around Legion Field Road will be continuing this week and next week, but it will mean some temporary street closures.
Today, Legion Field Road will be closed between Highway 19 and Kendall Street, the city of Marshall said. The same area will also be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
The street will be closed in order for Towne & Country Excavation to do construction work to install a storm sewer underneath the road.
Homes in the neighborhood around Legion Field Road have had problems with flooding for years. The city of Marshall is planning several different drainage improvements in the area, including building dry pond areas for water retention, and improving drainage pipelines.
Legion Field Road will be open with a gravel surface over the weekend, the city said. Motorists are being asked to drive carefully when passing over the gravel section.
Construction on the stormwater project is anticipated to continue through September. Construction updates will be posted on the Marshall city website. Members of the public are encouraged to call the city public works office at 537-6773 with questions.
