After a series of small ensemble in-person concerts during August, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will be back in the virtual realm for its fall season.

The orchestra has announced a series of livestreamed ticketed concerts that will begin with two weeks — Sept. 10-11 and 17-18 — conducted by new Music Director Jader Bignamini. The shows, streaming via dso.org, will be performed live at Orchestra Hall, with the DSO musicians socially spaced and taking other pandemic precautions.

Bignamini’s first concerts will feature works by Copland, Strauss, Morricone, Puccini and Dvorak, among others. He’ll return for concerts Dec. 10-11, with the second night dedicated to Beethoven’s symphony No. 3, “Eroica.”

The fall season will feature a variety of Classical, Pops and Young People’s concerts, the latter including a “Halloween Spooktacular” on Oct. 31. Previous DSO Music Director Leonard Slatkin returns on Oct. 1, and there will be world premieres of works by Nokuthula Ngwenymama (Nov. 5) and Tyshawn Sorey (Nov. 6).

A “Home For the Holidays” Pops concert takes place Dec. 17-18.

The DSO is currently keeping its scheduled in-person concerts scheduled for 2021, as well as the Paradise Jazz Series, Young People’s Family Concert Series, Tiny Tots and William Davidson Neighborhood Concert Series on the calendar for now. The orchestra intends to make “a limited number of tickets may be made available for in-person concerts” available for future events, depending on state public health guidelines and restrictions.

The Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center will host other virtual performances during the fall that will be announced in the future.
