Durfee, Dartmouth and New Bedford High will be playing high school sports this fall as part of a regional pod that will include Bridgewater-Raynham and West Bridgewater.

Brockton is pending approval from its school committee next week to participate now that the city no longer has a red designation by the Department of Public Health.

“Brockton is going to propose to get approved by their school committee on Tuesday to play everything,” said Tom Tarpey, Chairman of the District 8 Athletic Committee. “All the five other schools have been approved by their respective school committees and superintendents already. I’m glad we’re doing stuff and we have enough teams to have something.”

The original proposal by Dartmouth athletic director Andrew Crisafulli to District 8 members on Aug. 25 included the possibility for several regional pods, based on a Central Massachusetts concept. Now it’s down to just one pod with the South Coast Conference and other area schools deferring to the Fall II season, an option presented by the MIAA.

“It’s just one pod because everybody else isn’t playing,” said Tarpey, New Bedford High’s athletic director. “West Bridgewater is going to join. They’re the only team from Mayflower that is going to have sports and they had no one to play.”

All fall sports — field hockey, golf, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls cross country and volleyball — will adhere to the MIAA’s modifications that were released last week.

“This will not be a ‘business as usual’ season, as we all need to adjust our mindsets, as the goal and focus is to offer our students a safe athletic experience in an effort to promote wellness,” said Crisafulli in a statement.

“It will look different, but the kids will get to be able to compete,” Tarpey said.

Tarpey said more information will be coming out about the pod over the next week as they finalize the details.

“We’re not moving anything (to Fall II). We’re playing everything that is allowed to be played in the fall,” Tarpey said. “We are all excited. We’re the only show in town.”
