KAMPALA – Journalists covering Entertainment and leisure activities in the country have previously been under their umbrella, radio and television presenters’ association but that has been excluding others in the same field.

In a bid to streamline their operations, and have a sense of independence and togetherness, they all reached common ground and changed the association to ‘Entertainment Journalists Association’ earlier this week.

The main aim of changing this name is to accommodate all journalists under this sector instead of focusing on only those on Television and Radio which like the previous name was suggesting.

In a meeting that was held at Papa Spot in Makindye, the journalists under the new association resolved to elect an interim committee that will be steering the work of this association until when the general elections will be held.

The meeting attracted more than 50 practitioners from various media outlets and members available appointed Herbert Kyewalyanga alias Herbie Kay as the interim president while Rebecca Jingo was voted as the Secretary in charge of Finance. Akugizibwe Jacob alias DJ Jacob is the Secretary Mobilization and General secretary.

The interim President asked journalists to remain united and focus on better goals of driving the entertainment field forward.

“This is not the time to accuse each other based on past mistakes. We have to build our association and make it admirable worldwide with happy and successful members,” said Herbie K.

Aside from spearheading the legal and administrative structuring of the association, the interim leadership is also tasked to bring together news reporters in the entertainment field such as Photojournalists and videographers, Bloggers, online journalists, radio and television presenters, Radio and Television producers and others in the sector.

The Entertainment Journalists Association will be a branch of the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) the uniting body of all journalists in Uganda.
