Contractors unintentionally grounded thousands of flights last week once they deleted recordsdata whereas engaged on the Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system, the Federal Aviation Administration says.
The company said in a statement Thursday {that a} preliminary evaluate discovered the shutdown occurred because the contractors labored to “correct synchronization between the live primary database and a backup database.” Investigators thus far discovered no proof of malicious intent or a cyberattack.
NOTAM is utilized by the FAA to inform pilots and airports of any potential flight hazards.
The FAA says it has taken steps to make the system “more resilient,” although the assertion didn’t specify these measures.
