The not-for-profit agency The Cooperstown, Oneonta, Otsego County Film Partnership Inc., now calling themselves ‘Film COOP’ is hoping to show film producers what Otsego County has to offer.
“It’ll bring film into town. It’ll bring business into town, and you know that’s a good thing.”
Board President Greg Klein who talked about the money the film industry can bring to an area.
“A Quiet Place 2 in Buffalo/Niagara they were there for 6 months, and they rented 12 thousand room units. So you know the great thing about Otsego County is we have the tourism for half the year, but the other half of the year we have beautiful Otsego County.”
It may take some time to get the word out to independent film makers, but Klein is pretty certain this new venture will be a big hit.
“We did have 2 Indy Film shoot here this year. Since we launched our sort of media launch this week, I’ve already had one film maker reach out to me with a location request for Cooperstown or the Cooperstown area.”
Klein says there’s State tax credit incentives for film producers to take advantage of, and while he’s hoping to bring attention to Otsego County, any production to the area is welcome.
“The City of Utica has a program, but again they’re not up on the website yet, so we hope this will spread to the rest of the Mohawk Valley. That people in other parts of the Mohawk Valley will start their own film commissions, and you know it lifts everybody up if films are coming to the area.”
