FilmRise has entered a licensing deal with Nordic Entertainment Group Studios UK to bring 500 hours of content to the streaming service. FilmRise will now have streaming rights to shows including the original British version of Shameless, British drama Doc Martin, and more.
This agreement gives FilmRise digital rights to AVOD and SVOD for the new content under the deal in both North and South America.
“This new partnership with NENT Studios UK is very exciting for us. It represents FilmRise’s expanding business as a licensing and distribution partner with global entertainment studios,” Danny Fisher, CEO of FilmRise said in a press release.
“We have done an abundance of successful business with FilmRise under the DRG banner,” said Scott Kirkpatrick, Senior Vice President, North America of NENT Studios UK. “Now we are excited to grow this business in various ways with FilmRise as part of the larger NENT Group.”
Here are the new shows coming to FilmRise under the deal:
Peep Show – the longest-running comedy in Channel 4 history which has become a cult fan favorite and named the 13th greatest British sitcom in a poll by Radio Times
Black Books – Award-winning comedy whose accolades include the BAFTA for Best Situation Comedy and a Bronze Rose at the Festival Rose d’Or of Montreux
Shameless – winner of Best Drama Series at the BAFTA TV Awards and Best TV Comedy Drama at the British Comedy Awards, and most notably for American audiences, the predecessor for the program created by Showtime Network that debuted in 2011.
Doc Martin – the British medical comedy drama series (starring Martin Clunes) that won the British Comedy Award for “Best TV Comedy Drama” in 2004 and in that same year, Clunes won the “Best TV Comedy Actor” award, primarily for his portrayal of Doc Martin. The program has garnered a large mainstream, loyal audience over the years and its 9th season aired in 2019. FilmRise has acquired the first 5 seasons, with season 6 being added soon.
