Notable: Doug Dahms last season became the winningest coach in program history and has the highest winning percentage in Berks football history (.838).

Quotable: “We have no returning starters on the o-line, but everybody’s been working hard in the weight room. Everyone’s been busting their butt off in practice. Everyone’s hoping to get it done on the field. This team’s full of hard workers. A lot of people lack experience, but everyone’s coming out with hard work and everyone just wants to play.” – Bulldogs WR Troy Corson.

The skinny: It always begins with defense in West Lawn and the Bulldogs should be set up well there again, with the return of three all-league defenders from a unit that ranked No. 1 in Berks against the run. The linebacker position got hit hard by graduation, but Adrian Santana, Jadyn Jones and Jon Ramsey bring the physical tools to get it done there. The secondary, anchored by four-year starter Troy Corson, should be improved. Kaleb Brown could see more time in the secondary, but his biggest contributions will come on offense where he presents a dual threat at quarterback. He had a big debut season, throwing for 1,429 yards and 23 touchdowns and running for 769 yards. He’ll be surrounded by big play-makers, including Mason Lenart, who averaged 11.8 yards a pop as a junior, Jones, a 210-pound slasher in the mold of Avanti Lockhart, and Troy Corson, who led the team in receptions a year ago. The looming question is the offensive line, where all five starters from a very good unit must be replaced. If that comes together quickly, the Bulldogs should be able to fend off Manheim Township, which has won or shared the Section 1 title three straight years.

At the wire: Just ahead of Manheim Township in another good Section 1 race, and battling for another district playoff spot.
