Throughout the current high school football season, there has been a number of ups and downs. Some of those low points have included game postponements due to injuries or COVID-19 cases.
But then on Friday evening, you have a contest that provides thrills and memories. At the Orange Bowl in Fredonia, the host Hillbillies and visiting Southwestern Trojans both gave it all they had in a game that came down to the wire. In dramatic fashion, when a two-point conversion failed on the final play, the home team won, 27-25.
“I’m not going to say it was another game, because it wasn’t,” Fredonia football Coach Greg Sherlock said. “It’s something we’ve looked for for a long time. They’ve had our number for a quite a few years.
“To be honest with you, for three and a half quarters (the defense) was playing lights out, they were playing really good ball. It seemed like things got away from us really, really quick.”
It was a fantastic finish — and a game that will not be quickly forgotten.
