WELLSTON, Ohio — Jeremiah Frisby’s 40-yard touchdown run on a keeper in the first quarter Friday had Wellston feeling good against undefeated, No. 2 ranked Fort Frye.

However, after the Rockets took that 6-0 lead, it was all Cadets the rest of the way as Fort Frye used a 28-point second quarter to take control of the game en route to a 28-6 victory.

Wellston (3-2) led 6-0 and had the ball again but was forced into a three-and-out.

The Cadets (5-0) drove deep into Rockets territory, but on a 4th-and-8 play in the red zone, Brian Adkins was stopped inches short of the first down.

Wellston got the ball back, but Frisby was intercepted by Eli Johnson, who returned it to the Rockets’ 21-yard line.

On a 3rd-and-6 play, Fort Frye quarterback Ian Ellis faked an option pitch to Collin Welsh, broke a tackle and ran 17 yards into the end zone.

Zaiden Huck’s extra-point kick gave the Cadets the lead for good, 7-6 with 10:23 left in the second quarter.

On the Cadets’ next possession, Owen Brown rushed for a 12-yard TD to make it 14-6 at the 6:51 mark.

Wellston got a 31-yard gain by Jonathon Garvin to take the ball into Fort Frye territory, but on a 4th-and-10 play, Frisby was sacked by Braden Medley for a turnover on downs.

Starting at their own 40, the Cadets got a 10-yard run by Brown, a 9-yard carry by Ellis and a 14-yard scamper by Adkins to put the ball at the 27. Ethan Dusky then took a handoff 13 yards to the 14, setting up Ellis’s shovel pass to Adkins, who took it to the house to make it 21-6 with 2:02 left in the half.

Wellston got aggressive on its next drive and tried to go deep, but Jaymison Baker came up with an interception and returned it to the Rockets’ 15.

Brown took back-to-back handoffs, one for 10 yards and one for a 5-yard score, to extend the lead to 28-6.

That was how the game ended as neither team scored in the second half.

Brown led all rushers with 85 yards on 13 carries. Adkins chipped in 42 yards on 10 carries, Welsh added 43 yards on six rushes and Ethan Duskey earned 41 yards on six totes. Ellis was 3 for 11 through the air for 24 yards.

Frisby passed 14 times, completing seven while throwing four interceptions — one each by Johnson, Baker, Huck and Nic Hart. Huck, Medley, Thomas Lenhart, Dylan Hart and Casey Brooker all sacked Frisby, who finished with negative-5 rushing yards on 13 attempts after his intial touchdown (14 for 35 total). Garvin led the hosts with 70 yards on 13 carries.

The Cadets wrap up regular season play next Saturday at Wheeling Central.
