Fred was married to Norma Jean Cozzetto for 21 years after being friends for many years. As a couple they enjoyed playing Bingo at a local casino, fishing at camp and watching the news. Fred especially loved watching Rachel Maddow in part because she is a fisherman.

He was the oldest of five children. Fred spent his childhood in the Rome area, where he and his siblings enjoyed shooting BB guns and going to their grandfather’s camp in Old Forge.

In school, Fred loved sports including Football, Baseball, Boxing and Wrestling. He had such a sense of teamwork that one evening (when his mother was planning to have hot dogs for the family), Fred had invited the wresting team home for dinner, turning the meal into hotdog stew!

Fred predeceased all of his siblings which are: Bruce Boyson of Vernon, NY; Gail Boyson of San Antonio, TX; Carl and Karen Boyson of Rome, NY and Crispen and Gwen Boyson of San Antonio TX. Fred lost a dear friend and sister in-law when he was predeceased by Jenny Sorokey (Bruce) Boyson in 2018.

In 1975, Fred, his brother Bruce, his uncle Herb and two close friends purchased a camp across the lake from his Grandfather’s camp in Old Forge, where he enjoyed the quieter moments of life, sometimes with a Genesee beer. Fred enjoyed telling family that the bugs didn’t bite him, even when others, like a brother, were being bitten many times.

Of the many things that Fred appreciated in life, time with children topped the list. He was a wonderful role model and supporter to all the children in his life. He strived to instill in them a love for all people, and the beauty of being in nature.

Fred will always be in the hearts of his four well-loved children and children in-law, Lynne and Karen Lindsay of Tupper Lake, NY; Fred & Cheryl Boyson of Hubbardsville, NY; Cynthea Boyson of Jacksonville, FL and Barbara Boyson and Brian Dobson of Ephratah, NY. As he raised his children in Sherburne NY, Fred always had an open door for all of his children’s’ friends which caused the home to be nicknamed as Boyson’s Boarding and Home for Unwanted Children.

Fred considered his step-children as his own children and loved them dearly. These include Debbie and Tom Smith of Gloversville, NY; Steven and Tammy Gallup of Hopkinsville, KY; Robin and Tony Siarkowski of Gloversville, NY; Vincent Scott of Gloversville, NY and Jeremy Scott of Hopkinsville, KY.

As a grandfather of 17 grandchildren it was important to Fred to spend time with them at the Old Forge camp. His grandchildren include Lucas Whaley, Mathew Tretola; Patrick Tretola; Eric Boyson; Crispen Boyson; Allyssa Wilmot; Chad Smith; Jessica Smith; Magan Gallup; Kayla Gallup; Jordan Siarkowski; Jacob Siarkowski; Vincent Scott Jr.; Adriana Scott; Xavier Scott; Omari Scott and Quedon Scott. Fred also loved his great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Fred was predeceased by his fur-baby Pepper. While living in Hopkinsville KY, he adopted two more fur-babies Kylie and Teddy.

Fred was an Army Veteran, great conversationalist; and enjoyed sitting on his porch at home or at camp and having a beer with family and friends. Fred enjoyed flowers and plants. He would show visitors around his yard to see how things were growing. While living in Hopkinsville, KY, he would text pictures of flowers blooming to family in New York. Fred became friends with Edwin Corley, who wrote the book “The Hanged Men” under the pseudonym David Harper. This novel starts with saying, “This story is dedicated to Fred Boyson who taught the author about the woods and hunting the white-tailed deer.”

The family is having a private gathering in Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association.
