Bangor moving all fall sports to spring 2021
The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau School District announced on its Facebook page Thursday that G-E-T High School would have its football season pushed to spring, with the other fall sports continuing this fall.
The post reads, “Attention G-E-T High School parents and athletes: After much deliberation, a final decision was made with regard to the Fall Sports Season. For the safety of everyone involved, G-E-T High School Football will schedule a Spring Season this school year along with other area conference teams. Cross Country, Girls Golf, and Volleyball, identified as lower-risk sports, will continue to move forward as planned for the 2020 Fall Season.”
Coulee Conference Commissioner Louie Ferguson provided clarity to News 8 Now Sports regarding the rest of the school’s plans. As things currently stand–Ferguson emphasized how fluid the situation could turn out to be–Aquinas, Viroqua, and Westby are hoping to pursue fall football, while Arcadia and Black River Falls are looking to push football to the spring. Arcadia’s athletic director Bruce Schweisthal said an official vote is taking place Monday, Aug. 24.
Ferguson added that if the above situation ends up being the reality, then the Coulee Conference will essentially not exist in the 2020-21 season, and teams won’t be playing for a conference title.
Later on Thursday, the Bangor School District announced it would push all fall sports to the alternate WIAA season next spring.
