Aghai : “Great team selection by India, giving chance to all those who haven’t played. ” — Getting nightmares of my days of playing cricket for my house team during schooldays. Got a chance only after our side was eliminated. Enough of my jokes, here’s Sid Monga now for the first ten overs.
Kumar: “Its really bad that rohit not showing any intention to take Harshal in the team. ” — Harshal travelled to the West Indies and the USA but he has been dealing with an injury. Question marks over his Asia Cup availability too. Full report here.
Shrivathsa: “Hopefully Kuldeep bags the opportunity and performs well. May be one the final chances for him “
Prathesh : “India have all the types of spinners the game has to offer in today’s game”
Those of you in the US can watch today’s game live on ESPN+.
Fantasy cricket buffs, check out our recommended XI, but do keep in mind who isn’t playing in today’s game before dialling your teams in.
India XI: Kishan, Samson, Shreyas, Hardik, Hooda, DK, Axar, Avesh, Kuldeep, Bishnoi, Arshdeep.
West Indies XI: Pooran (c), Powell, Brooks, Paul, Thomas (wk), Drakes, Mccoy, Walsh, Hetmyer, Holder, Smith (caveat: not in order, but according to team sheet)
Virat: “This match may be last chance for Shreyas Iyer to prove his mettle especially against Short ball..”
10am Toss time, Hardik and Pooran in the middle. India win the toss, bat first.
Hardik: “Batting gets slower in the second innings. We don’t feel we are playing in Miami but in some Indian city. Fantastic to come abroad and get this support. (Goal in final match) We spoke to the boys that no matter what happens, we have set some standards for the Indian cricket team so the intensity and the attitude stays the same. Four changes: all are resting, Rohit, Rishabh, Bhuvneshwar, Suryakumar go out.”
Pooran: “Wanted to bat first but that’s fine. Need to restrict them and try and chase it. Four changes: Mayers, King, Joseph, Hosein won’t play. Brooks, Walsh, Smith and Paul are in. For us, we need to get better as a team, reduce mistakes and get better. (Walsh Jr, why excluded so far?) We felt that St Kitts was a small venue. It’s nice to have both him and Akeal in the squad so we can use both spin options when needed.”
Rahul Oak: “Looks like Hardik is walking out for the toss.” — Spot on.
Jeetu: “Arshdeep must be on the flight to AUS!!!” — You’re right. At first I felt that a left-arm seamer is great for variety but he makes the cut even on skills! Pressure on Deepak Chahar, Avesh Khan and potentially Bhuvneshwar Kumar too. Reckon Bumrah and Harshal Patel are certainties on the flight down under. Will throw in Shami’s name in too.
Navin: “McCoy is clearly my standout player from the WI camp this series. From the Indian camp i would say SKY, Arshdeep and Pant in that order.”
Nilesh Garg: “@Sreshth I don’t really think that the Indian management is considering Shami in the scheme of things for the t20WC.”
9.55am Just five minutes for the toss. Really interesting and promising that most of my comms feedback is on the women’s final that is coming up later today. Can a gold at the CWG change the face of women’s cricket in India? Harmanpreet Kaur believes that wholeheartedly. Coming back to the men’s action, here is a question for you fans – tell me one player from India and West Indies who has impressed you the most in these white-ball games?
9.50am Mahesh: “Any word from the weatherman?” — Don’t have a direct line with them, but I do have a friendly figure near the ground who tells me it’s sunny. Rain is forecast today, but not during game time – only late afternoon. Let’s hope that prediction is correct.
Hrishi : “Hopefully we can get some result today. Just love watching these young guys play” — If you don’t get cricket here, then there’s always the CWG final in just over 2 hours where India play Australia for the gold medal. Here’s the build up bulletin to that contest in Birmingham.
Under 30 minutes for the toss, so let’s get the ball rolling on ESPNcricinfo’s coverage of the cricket. Yesterday’s contest proved to be a one-sided affair with each of India’s top five getting a good hit out there in the middle after which the bowling unit’s auditioning players all impressing. For West Indies, they appeared to slip back into the kind of batting their captain Nicholas Pooran does not want from them. It has also been a change in fortunes for two bowlers who have been under the microscope through the series: Obed McCoy – who took a six-for in the second T20I – went for 66 in four overs on Saturday, while Avesh Khan impressed with his 2 for 17 that set up India’s victory march. Here’s our analysis of Avesh’s effort (and don’t forget to hear what he had to say in the video embedded on how mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton has helped him).
Shashikaant : “Before starting of match one question ? Whether SKY has cemented Opening slot. Or it is temporary till KL reports ” — One has to think it is temporary.
Atin: “Waiting for a flight to Istanbul from Nuremberg. Flight delayed by 3 hours. Silver lining? I can see the start of the match :-“
9.30am The series may be sealed, but with the big picture (AKA the T20 World Cup) just two months away, even a dead rubber turns consequential. Back we are in not-necessarily-sunny Florida for the final game of India’s tour of the Americas. Sreshth Shah here and Sid Monga will be with us shortly.
