Delisted West Coast utility Jarrod Brander will become a GWS Giant as soon as next Wednesday.
Foxfooty.com.au understands the player and club have reached an in-principle agreement that will be made official once the next delisted free agency period commences on November 3.
It means the Giants will finally get their hands on Brander more than four years after the AFL Commission stripped the club of its Murray region recruiting zone. GWS lost its draft discount for players located in Albury, Moama, Wentworth and Deniliquin months before the 2017 draft – and Brander was from Wentworth. Charlie Spargo (Melbourne) was also impacted.

Brander was eventually drafted by the Eagles with Pick 13 in the 2017 draft, but let go by the Eagles on October 18 this year after receiving preliminary interest from Geelong and Carlton during the trade period.
Clubs are permitted to sign delisted free agents from November 3 to 10 then again from the 11th to the 15th.
Brander played 22 games across four seasons in the west but could not lock a permanent place in Adam Simpson’s team either as a forward or a winger.
He attended Geelong Grammar with Giants playmaker Brent Daniels, playing football and cricket alongside him.
Had GWS not shown interest in him as a delisted free agent, Brander would have nominated for the national draft and had he missed out there, the rookie draft.
Fremantle football boss Peter Bell confirmed the club had held discussions around the 195cm prospect.
“We’ve had some conversations around Jarrod and where we’d see his game progressing,” Bell told 6PR earlier this month.
“At this stage, it hasn’t amounted to anything. He’s certainly got size on his side.”
