LIBERTY — Glen Helmick Jr., 91, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 15, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Glen was born Sept. 7, 1929 in Staunton, Va., the son of Glen Sr. and Viola Huffman Helmick. Glen was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Marines.
He moved to the Youngstown area in 1956. He worked for Youngstown Steel Door for many years in the shipping department. Glen was a member of New Life Lutheran Church.
Glen was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved watching wrestling.
He is survived by his wife , Lettie Long, whom he married Feb. 11, 1956. He also leaves three sons, Alan (Karen) Helmick of Hubbard, Derek (Eva) Helmick of Hubbard and Doug (Michele) Helmick of Struthers; a daughter, Julia (Jerry) Chill of Brandon , Fla. ; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Jack) Kline, Chris Helmick, Ashley (Erik) Bateman, Doug (D.J.) Helmick and Raymond Nagle; and six great-randchildren, Milania Pesa, Ava Kline, Jack Kline, Brooklyn Bateman, Landon Bateman and Anthony Zandarski.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers , Roy and Troy Cooper; and two sisters, Francis Markum and Mary Lambert.
Funeral services for Glen Helmick Jr. are private. There are no calling hours due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Szabo and Sons Funeral Home.
