Good Shepherd Catholic College was proud to open officially its new Design and Technology Centre on Wednesday. Townsville Bishop Tim Harris was on hand to bless the $2 million project which significantly expands the College’s capacity in the area of Industrial Technology Education. The centre was then officially opened by Executive Director of Townsville Catholic Education Jacqui Francis. Located across from the school on May St the Design and Technology Centre has opened with students commencing metal work, wood work and construction courses in the new facility in term three. RELATED NEWS: St Joseph’s opens its new school buildings Good Shepherd Catholic College principal Kathleen McCarthy said the opening was an exciting day for Good Shepherd Catholic College and for the region of Mount Isa. “A facility like this will inspire students to future pathways in Engineering and Construction technologies, which is particularly important for our local mining context,” Ms McCarthy said. “”Students at Good Shepherd Catholic College have the opportunity to study a broad range of curriculum, especially in Design and Technology, but importantly can do so in a safe and supportive Christian environment. Our logo is Live the Values, Achieve Success and Experience the Community.” The new building includes five learning spaces with two metal work or engineering spaces, two woodwork and furnishing spaces and also a design space.
