Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister K K Shailaja on Saturday said that Kerala model is still the best in Covid resistance activities. Government had taken all necessary measures in view of the spread of infection. The state had given preference from the start to check the spread and decrease the death rate, she added while speaking to Mathrubhumi News.

“Government adopted the strategy of transparency in front of public. The community spread in the capital was informed to people as part of it. However, we still can say that considering Covid-19 cases in India, Kerala has very few numbers,” Minister said.

Government is trying to control the Covid situation in the state with the involvement of public. It has been successful till now. In the neighbouring states, the Covid cases in surging. The same situation may arise in Kerala any time as all the external factors like climate and geography are similar. Also we are at disadvantage as the population density is high here.

Government had intervened when clusters are formed as Cluster management strategy was already prepared. The health department had anticipated that if community spread occurs, the numbers would be too big to handle. Hence Plan A, B, C were prepared. However, for anything to work, cooperation from public is necessary, she added.

If the situation worsens like other states, we would fall short in case of health workers. So everyone should take care not to reach that point. Now the situation is that anyone could be infected from anyone.

Just relying upon government hospitals for Covid treatment will not be feasible. Government has discussed the same with private hospitals and decided on a fixed rate for test and treatment.

Isolation wards will be arranged in private hospitals. This would include hospitals under Karunya Health Scheme. If a patient is eligible for concession, it would be provided, Minister further said.
