174 Indian nationals file lawsuit against presidential proclamation on H1B

A group of 174 Indian nationals, including seven minors, has filed a lawsuit against the recent presidential proclamation on H-1B that would prevent them from entering the United States or a visa would not be issued to them.
Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson at the US District Court in the District of Columbia issued summonses on Wednesday to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad F Wolf, along with Labor Secretary Eugene Scalia.

Reliance’s $15 bln stake sale deal with Aramco delayed

Reliance Industries’ plans to sell 20% stake in its oil-to-chemical business to Saudi Aramco is delayed, chairman of the Indian conglomerate said on Wednesday.
Reliance, operator of the world’s biggest refining complex, last year announced a $15 billion deal with the world’s top oil exporter Aramco as part of the Indian company’s efforts to cut its debts.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances in the energy market and the Covid-19 situation, the deal (with Saudi Aramco) has not progressed as per the original timeline,” Mukesh Ambani told shareholders on Wednesday.
The Aramco deal was initially expected to be completed by March 2020.

Savings disincentivised: Real interest rates slide into negative territory

A sharp fall in deposit rates due to aggressive rate cuts by banks in response to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reduction in the benchmark rates coupled with a rise in consumer prices have pulled real interest rates into negative territory, disincentivising savings.
The RBI has reduced its benchmark repo rate by 115 basis points between March and May to support the economy in light of the Covid-19 induced slowdown. As a result, banks have had to reduce their lending and deposit rates to adjust to the new interest rate scenario. One basis point is 0.01 percentage point.
