Spectators will be allowed at Helias Catholic High School’s fall sports and other events in a limited capacity.

In a news release Monday, the school laid out its plans for fall sports and activities attendance, which include use of a player card system to limit the number of spectators at events.

Each student who participates in band, cheer, dance, football, boys’ soccer, softball and volleyball will be given eight player cards.

Player cards will list the name of the student and the sport or activity they participate in. The cards do not take the place of paid admission but are a permit to allow access to the venue.

Player cards allow access only to the sport or activity listed on the card.

Because the school doesn’t collect admission for girls’ golf, girls’ tennis or cross country, player cards will not apply to those sports.

Students will be able to pass out the cards to whoever they want to attend the events, and Helias will announce, prior to the games, how many player cards will be accepted per student, ranging from one to eight.

The number of allowed spectators will be determined by the current rate of COVID-19 transmission in the county.

Player cards are numbered and must be used sequentially — if an event allows only two guests, those two guests must have cards No. 1 and 2.

Visiting teams will be allowed to bring an equal number of fans, which will be monitored by the admissions table at the event, according to the news release.

For away games at schools that also limit the number of guests, Helias guests will still need player cards to enter.

The host school will be notified of the policy and will determine how many cards may be used.

The player card system is currently only in place for the fall season, and Helias will evaluate its use for the winter and spring seasons at a later time.

All-sport admission passes can still be purchased to pay for admission, but player cards will still be required.

Once inside events, Helias asks that attendees wear facial coverings and maintain 6 feet of physical distance when possible.

Concessions will be open at events, but only pre-packaged food and drinks will be sold.

The Jefferson City School District plans to release its plan for fall sports and activities attendance later this week, JC Schools Director of Communications Ryan Burns told the News Tribune.
