UNDATED (AP) — For the first time this season, there are no games on the college football schedule matching two ranked teams. That doesn’t mean the schedule is lacking intrigue. Several teams that fell out of the rankings are trying to reset their seasons and they get a chance against ranked opponents this week. Count Clemson, Iowa State and Wisconsin among the those with a chance to still make a run at a conference title.  

UNDATED (AP) — Unranked Clemson travels to No. 23 Pittsburgh in a key cross-division matchup that features the ACC’s highest-scoring offense against the league’s stingiest defense. The Panthers lead the Coastal Division and Clemson, unranked by the AP for the third straight week, is still in the hunt for the Atlantic Division crown despite a double overtime loss at North Carolina State. Other games include Syracuse at Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech at Virginia, NC State at Miami, and Boston College at Louisville.

UNDATED (AP) — Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson and Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett headline The Associated Press’ list of midseason football honorees for the Atlantic Coast Conference. Clawson is the unanimous choice as top coach through the season’s first half in voting by AP writers covering league teams. Clawson’s Demon Deacons are ranked 16th nationally and 6-0 for the first time since 1944. Pickett was voted as top offensive player for the 23rd-ranked Panthers. Other midyear honorees include Virginia Tech defensive back Jermaine Waller, Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong and Syracuse defensive back Darian “Duce” Chestnut.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Ninth-ranked Duke is ready for Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski’s final season on the bench. Krzyzewski announced in June he would retire after the upcoming season. The Blue Devils return just four players who saw significant minutes last season as Duke missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995. Duke is adding a touted recruiting class led by 6-foot-10 forward Paolo Banchero. Duke opens against No. 10 Kentucky in the Champions Classic on Nov. 9. The Blue Devils close the regular season against rival North Carolina on March 5 in Krzyzewski’s final game at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — As Leonard Hamilton begins his 20th season at Florida State, he has elevated the men’s basketball program from one of the worst in the Atlantic Coast Conference to one annually among the league’s top teams. Florida State is one of just three teams, joining Gonzaga and Michigan, that has advanced to the Sweet 16 in each of the last three NCAA Tournaments. The Seminoles have recruited and developed some of the nation’s top talent. Florida State has produced six NBA first-round draft picks since 2016. Among those are five-star recruits like Scottie Barnes and Patrick Williams, who both played one year in Tallahassee, as well as diamonds in the rough like Devin Vassell and Mfiondu Kabengele.

UNDATED (AP) — New North Carolina coach Hubert Davis is counting on returnees and incoming transfers in his first season leading the 19th-ranked Tar Heels. Davis played for UNC under Dean Smith and coached under Roy Williams. Now he is taking over after Williams retired in April. The Tar Heels are picked third in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They return leading scorer Armando Bacot and starting point guard Caleb Love. The Tar Heels also added multiple transfers, including outside-shooting big man Brady Manek from Oklahoma. UNC opens the season Nov. 9 against Loyola (Maryland) and closes at rival Duke on March 5.

UNDATED (AP) — Virginia is the defending Atlantic Coast Conference regular season champion for the fifth time in eight years. Graduation and attrition have left the 25th-ranked Cavaliers with a big hill to climb. Coach Tony Bennett’s team has lost six of the top eight scorers off last year’s team. Four moved on to likely professional careers, and two transferred within the ACC. Bennett says his team will have to find its identity, but he hopes that two accomplished transfers and two incoming freshman will bolster a roster with a number of recruits that finally will get their chance to play significant minutes.

UNDATED (AP) — Buddy Boeheim is ready for his final season playing basketball for his Hall of Fame father and will have big brother Jimmy as a teammate. Syracuse finished 18-10 overall and 9-7 in the Atlantic Coast Conference last season and is picked to finish mid-pack this year. The Orange lost key forwards Marek Dolezaj and Quincy Guerrier, swingman Alan Griffin and guard Kadary Richmond. Guard Joe Girard is back for his third year. The Orange welcome freshman forward Benny Williams and transfers Cole Swider, Symir Torrence and Jimmy Boeheim. Center Bourama Sidibe is back for his final year and center Jesse Edwards returns after showing promise last season.
