UNDATED (AP) — Oklahoma State is 5-0 for the first time since 2015. Now, the 12th-ranked Cowboys will try to win three consecutives games over Top-25 teams for the first time in program history. They play at No. 25 Texas. Oklahoma State won its first two Big 12 games against ranked teams before last week’s open date. No. 19 BYU gets an early Big 12 preview when it plays at Baylor. The Cougars accepted an invitation last month to join the Big 12. They will start conference play in 2023. 

UNDATED (AP) — No. 1 has been a particularly secure position during the College Football Playoff era. The last time No. 1 was beaten twice in a regular season was 2012, which was also the last time No. 1 went down in consecutive weeks. That November, Texas A&M and eventual Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel went to top-ranked Alabama and beat the Tide. The next week Stanford knocked off No. 1 Oregon in overtime. The Aggies have set the stage again with a victory against Alabama. No. 11 Kentucky will try to play the role of Stanford to Georgia’s Oregon on Saturday. Wildcats-Bulldogs is one of two games matching ranked teams in Week 7.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Fourth-ranked Oklahoma takes a nation-leading 14-game win streak into a game Saturday night against TCU. Caleb Williams replaced preseason All-American Spencer Rattler at quarterback and rallied the Sooners to a 55-48 victory against Texas last week. Riley did not name a starter ahead of the TCU game. TCU coach Gary Patterson says quarterback Max Duggan and running back Zach Evans are questionable with injuries. TCU is coming off a 52-31 win over Texas Tech.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas freshman wide receiver Xavier Worthy is the latest playmaker for the No. 25 Longhorns heading into a key Big 12 matchup against undefeated No. 12 Oklahoma State. Worthy had a breakout game in last week’s loss to Oklahoma and recovered from a late fumble to score a late touchdown. And he’s just another for the Cowboys’ tough defense to deal with while trying to contain Texas running back Bijan Robinson. Oklahoma State brings one of the league’s best defenses and a powerful run game of its own behind Utah State transfer running back Jaylen Warren.  

WACO, Texas (AP) — No. 19 BYU visits Baylor this weekend. Both teams are 5-1 and the winner will become eligible to play in a bowl game. The football-independent Cougars are trying to bounce back from their first loss. They are also playing their first Big 12 opponent since last month accepting an invitation to join that league in 2023. Baylor is playing a rare non-conference game in October. The Bears overcame their first loss with an overwhelming win over Iowa State in the first of their three consecutive home games.
