(AP) — Kyren Williams rushed for two short touchdowns and a season-high 138 yards on 25 carries and No. 13 Notre Dame withstood Southern California’s fourth-quarter rally for a 31-16 victory. Williams scored on a 5-yard run in the second quarter and his 1-yard run in the third quarter put the Irish up 24-3 en route to their fourth straight victory in the 92-game series. Kedon Slovis and 6-foot-5 junior wide receiver Drake London kept the Trojans in it. Slovis connected on 27 of 37 passes for 299 yards, 15 of the completions to London for 171 yards..

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Travis Dye became the first player in Football Bowl Subdivision history to score touchdowns on four consecutive carries and No. 10 Oregon overcame an early 14-point deficit to beat UCLA 34-31 on Saturday. Anthony Brown had 381 yards of total offense for the Ducks (6-1, 3-1 Pac-12) against the Bruins (5-3, 3-2). Dye — who finished with 35 yards on 14 carries — also became the seventh Oregon running back since 2000 with at least four rushing touchdowns in a game. Before Dye’s record day, six players shared the mark with TDs on three consecutive carries, including Illinois’ Howard Griffith and Virginia’s Tiki Barber.

No. 2 Cincinnati, heading to the Big 12 at some point, and No. 3 Oklahoma, leaving the Big 12 at some point, remained undefeated, though neither was at its best. Two more top-10 teams lost to unranked opponents in Week 8, including an epic offense failure for No. 7 Penn State. Iowa State and Wisconsin surged back into their conference races while No. 23 Pitt put Clemson’s Atlantic Coast Conference championship hopes in critical condition.

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — Tyler Allgeier ran for 191 yards and two touchdowns and BYU beat Washington State 21-19 on Saturday in Washington State’s first game since head coach Nick Rolovich was fired for refusing to get a COVID-19 vaccination. Rolovich and four assistants were fired Monday for not complying with the governor’s mandate that all state employees be vaccinated against the coronavirus. Rolovich had requested a religious exemption that was denied Monday, the state’s vaccination deadline. He was replaced for the remainder of the season by Jake Dickert, the defensive coordinator who was elevated to acting head coach. Jaren Hall threw for 143 yards for BYU. Max Borghi scored three touchdowns for Washington State. 

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) — Chase Garbers passed for two touchdowns and broke the school record for career rushing yards by a quarterback, leading California past Colorado, 26-3. The Golden Bears made several big plays offensively to go with a solid afternoon from their defense and special teams while snapping a three-game losing streak. Garbers completed 22 of 29 passes for 225 yards but did his most damage on the ground, rushing for 96 yards on 10 carries. That also moved Garbers past Joe Kapp as Cal’s all-time leader for quarterbacks with 1,025 yards. Kapp ran for 931 from 1956-58.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Dylan Morris threw two second-half touchdown passes and Washington rallied to extend the nation’s longest losing streak to 19 games with a 21-16 win over Arizona. Washington stumbled through the first half and was down nine before rallying behind Morris in the fourth quarter. The Huskies’ beleaguered quarterback hit Terrell Bynum on two long passes to set up two scores and Washington’s defense shut down Arizona after being hit with big players earlier. Arizona seemed to be on its way to ending its school-record losing streak, taking a 16-7 lead into the fourth quarter before imploding. The Wildcats’ offense stalled and the defense buckled after dominating the first half, leaving them winless since December 2019.
