UNDATED (AP) — LSU visits No. 12 Mississippi in a West Division matchup. Ed Orgeron enters the first of his final regular season games as LSU coach after he and the school agreed on Sunday that he would not return after this season. The move comes after the Tigers halted a two-game slide with a 49-42 victory over then-No. 20 Florida. Orgeron’s dismissal was 17 games after he led LSU to an unbeaten national championship after the 2019 season. The game matches two of the SEC’s top quarterbacks in LSU’s Max Johnson and Ole Miss’ Matt Corral, who have combined for 3,591 yards and 34 touchdowns.

UNDATED (AP) — Georgia and Alabama could be heading for another showdown in the Southeastern Conference championship game. Halfway through the season the Bulldogs are ranked first in the Top 25 and the Crimson Tide fourth. Eight of the past nine SEC title games have featured either Alabama or Georgia or both. The Crimson Tide and Bulldogs have met twice in Atlanta for the league crown since 2012. The best of the rest in the SEC during the first half of the season have been No. 12 Mississippi and No. 15 Kentucky. Rebels quarterback Matt Corral is a Heisman candidate and coach Mark Stoops has the Wildcats on track for one their best seasons ever.

UNDATED (AP) — For the first time this season, there are no games on the college football schedule matching two ranked teams. That doesn’t mean the schedule is lacking intrigue. Several teams that fell out of the rankings are trying to reset their seasons and they get a chance against ranked opponents this week. Count Clemson, Iowa State and Wisconsin among the those with a chance to still make a run at a conference title.  

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia’s basketball team has lost its only returning starter, senior forward P.J. Horne, to a season-ending knee injury. Coach Tom Crean says Horne had surgery on his right knee, which he hurt when he landed awkwardly after losing his footing in practice. Horne played his first three seasons at Virginia Tech before starting all 26 games at Georgia last season. He averaged 8.5 points and 3.5 rebounds. His 46 3-pointers led the team. Crean says the loss of Horne is “a major blow” to the Bulldogs, picked by media to finish last in the Southeastern Conference.
