WILLIAMSTOWN 61, RAVENSWOOD 7

RAVENSWOOD — The Williamstown Yellowjackets made short work of the hosting Red Devils, winning 61-7 here on Friday night.

The Yellowjackets (2-0) ran the ball all night long versus the Red Devils (0-2) defense, as Trevor Oates (103 yards) and Brayden Modesitt (85 yards) both reached paydirt two times.

Modesitt also got the job done in the passing game as well, finding Kent Wigal in the end zone. Fullback Rickie Allen also scored on the ground, off a 12-yard run and Caleb Stansberry returned a punt for a TD as well.

Ravenswood got on the board early in the fourth quarter, Shawn Banks scoring on a 63-yard pass from QB Ben Queen.

RIPLEY 21,

LINCOLN COUNTY 7

RIPLEY — The home Vikings took advantage of four turnovers from visiting Lincoln County Friday night for a 21-7 win.

Elijah Miller scored a touchdown off an interception, than Isaiah Casto and Kadin Hill each found paydirt on the ground as Ripley upped its record to 2-0.

Lincoln County responded after Casto’s 60-yard scoring run early in the first with a Gabe Bates 6-yard pass to William Phillips for a 7-7 tie. Things stayed that way until Hill found the end zone from 2 yards out and Kaitlyn Lawrence’s kick made the score 14-7 in favor of the home team.

On the night, Hill led the Vikings in rushing with 88 yards on 19 carries.

Casto paced the Panthers with 116 stripes on 21 carries.

TYLER

CONSOLIDATED 34, SOUTH HARRISON 6

KIDWELL — Tyler Consolidated received scores from four different players, turned over visiting South Harrison three times and bounced back from a season-opening loss to Doddridge County with a 34-6 win.

David Throckmorton was the only player who found paydirt multiple times for the Silver Knights. His first two scores of the game gave the Silver Knights all they needed. From there it was about running the football and occassionally finding the end zone in the second half.

Sage Landis, Ty Walton and Trenton Huffman all celebrated ground scores. With Huffman’s touchdown being the longest score of the evening on a 83-yard gallop.

South Harrison couldn’t take advantage of four Knights’ turnovers and its lone score game in the fourth quarter.

MARIETTA 24,

ATHENS 20

THE PLAINS — Tony Munos scored three touchdowns and Marietta’s defense got a late stop to help the Tigers get their first win of the season Friday, a 24-20 triumph over host Athens.

Reece Gerber threw a 41-yard touchdown to Munos at the 8:22 mark in the first quarter to make it 6-0.

Later at the 2:12 mark of the first, Munos scored on a 6-yard run to extend the lead to 12-0.

On the first play of the second quarter, Marietta running back Zach Bartlett busted a long touchdown run to make it 18-0.

Peyton Gail got Athens on the board with 5:52 left in the first half on a 19-yard TD run to cut it to 18-8, but found the end zone for the third time, this time on a 5-yard run on the final play of the first half, to give the Tigers a 24-8 cushion at halftime.

Athens kept fighting, scoring touchdowns on a Braxton Springer fumble recovery and a Joey Moore 9-yard run, making it 24-20 with 5:30 left in the contest.

Marietta improved to 1-2 and will play host to Parkersburg next Friday.

“If was big for us,” said MHS head coach Jason Schob. “Was it perfect? No it wasn’t, but that first win is pretty tough to get. I’m just glad we were able to pull it out. I’m really happy for the kids.”

ST. MARYS 33,

GRAFTON 6

ST. MARYS — Jodi Mote’s team had a slow start Friday night inside Bill Hanlin Stadium.

Once the Blue Devils got going however they didn’t slow down. Quarterback Brennan Boron found the end zone three seperate times, Logan Rice picked off a pass and returned it for a score, and the Blue Devils improved to 2-0 with a 33-6 win over Class AA Grafton.

Jay Powell’s defense held the Bearcats to a lone Kaden Delaney touchdown on a 13-yard pass from Blake Moore. Other than that it was tough sledding with Grafton amassing just 82 total yards including negative-4 yards on 27 rushing attempts.

Meanwhile, St. Marys almost quadrupled their visitors output with 324 yards. Three different rushers tallied more than 70 yards rushing in Brennan Boron (96), Ben Long (88) and Tre Moss (72).

WIRT COUNTY 32, GILMER COUNTY 0

GLENVILLE–A touchdown lead after playing the first half, it was all Wirt County in the second half, scoring 25 points while holding the hosting Titans to shoutout Friday night.

Picking up the first win on the season, the Tigers (1-1) did the majority of their damage on the ground. Garrett Parsons had 146 yards and two TDs and Kolton Parsons reached paydirt three times, along with 74 yards. Tiger quarterback Dylan Lowe had 101 yards through the air and Parsons was his main option with four catches and 58 receiving yards.

AJ Garrett had 63 total yards (20 rushing and 43 receiving) and Nathan Murray had a 30-yard interception. Improving to .500 in the win-loss column, Wirt County’s next game will be hosting Webester County.

The Titans drop to 1-1 on the year and will travel to Wahama next Friday night.

WARREN 28,

LOGAN 14

LOGAN — Warren bounced back from its first loss of the season in style on the road Friday night in Logan.

Kurt Taylor threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns, Evan Gandee hauled in seven catches for 177 yards and three scores, and Warren grabbed a 28-14 win over Logan. Matt Kimes’ ball club improved to 2-1 with the victory.

The game was close after one period before Warren took a 21-14 lead into the lockerroom at the half. After the intermission, the Warriors shutout their hosts and scored one more touchdown on Taylor’s 22-yard connection with Gandee.

Taylor also added an 11-yard run for a score in the second quarter.

DODD. COUNTY 47, CALHOUN COUNTY 0

MT. ZION –It was all the Doddridge County in the 47-0 win over the hosting Red Devils here on Friday night.

Improving to 2-0 on the year, the Bulldogs quickly put the game out of reach for Calhoun, scoring 30 points in the first quarter.

Doddridge’s running back Reese Burnside started the scoring burst with a 51-yard run with less than 15 seconds played of the opening quarter to give the Bulldogs the lead.

Scoring off a safety with 10:35 on the clock, Simon James later punched it in from 3 yards out to make it a DCHS 21-0 lead.

Quarterback Jared Jones found Gage Stewart and Seth Richards for passing scores and Dylan Knight ended the first-half scoring with reaching paydirt twice (7 and 48 yard run).

Both leading rushers Burnside (136 yards) and Knight (116 yards) only played in the first half, while Calhoun struggled, having -minus-20 yards and no first downs.

Grant Sterns was the Red Devils (0-2) leading rusher with 34 yards and Ian Persinger found Owen Taylor for a 39-yard completion, his only of the night.
