Black River won its first boys soccer district championship since 2008 with a 2-1 win over Bloomingdale on Thursday night.
Jack Davis and Jonah VanderMeer scored first half goals. Davis had the assist on VanderMeer’s goal. Hudson Hilgert made five saves in net.
“I am so happy for our players,” said coach Kyle Lawton. “They have worked so hard this year and played a great game tonight. We are excited to keep playing.”
VOLLEYBALL
Saugatuck 3, Martin 0
The Lady Trailblazers won in 3 sets 25-14, 25-10 and 25-17 over Martin on Thursday night.
Saugatuck came out strong and fast but could not seem to maintain a lead until their spot serving started to hit in the 85 to 90% accuracy keeping the Clippers from running their offense. The Trailblazers did a great job digging their offensive hits, reading the hitters and getting to the spot on the floor to make a great pass to the setter. The entire team was able to play and have success on the court.
Haley Rivera had five assists and five digs, Dana Crough had 11 assists, four digs and two kills. Emma Deboer had two kills. five blocks and five digs. Alyssa Ries had four digs. Aerin Baker had 14 kills, 12 digs, three aces and eight blocks.
