It’s straightforward to get swept up within the swirling starry arms of this intermediate spiral galaxy, NGC 4654, within the constellation Virgo. The galaxy has a vibrant middle and is labeled “intermediate” as a result of it has traits of each unbarred and barred spirals. NGC 4654 is simply north of the celestial equator, making it seen from the northern hemisphere and many of the southern hemisphere. The galaxy is round 55 million light-years from Earth.
