Independence Day 2020: India is celebrating the 74th Independence Day today. This year’s celebrations are a severely restricted affair both in the national capital and across the country because of the coronavirus pandemic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers and other leaders tweeted their greetings to the nation.

“On the occasion of Independence Day, homage to all the great fighters who have brought freedom to the country with their valour and sacrifice and also salute the heroes who made all-out effort for the unity, integrity and security of India after independence,” Home Minister Amit Shah wrote on social media.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarindder Singh in a video message on Twitter said, “As we all get together to celebrate the 74th Independence Day, let us all pay tribute to the sacrifice of our freedom fighters who gave away their present for our better future.” The Chief Minister had special words of praise for the armed forces of India, guarding the borders in tough circumstances.
