Amid THE ongoing row between Canada and India over the killing of Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June, the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday accredited creation of posts of a further director common (ADG) and 6 inspector generals (IGs) within the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Currently, NIA has 4 IGs who deal with the unit of terror financing, the north-east division, investigation and coverage. Each IG has a crew of a minimum of two deputy inspector common (DIG) rank officers and 4 superintendent of police (SP) degree officers. They all report back to an ADG rank officer, who studies to Director General-NIA Dinkar Gupta. “We recently sent another proposal to MHA, asking them to increase the sanction post of DIGs rank officers and SP level officers,” an official mentioned.

Officials mentioned the NIA is making a database of the final 50 years of FIRs, investigations and selections of the Supreme Court on instances involving terror incidents. “We are hoping that in the coming year, a national database on bomb blasts, terror funding, fake currency, narcotics, hawala transactions, arms smuggling and terrorism will be ready. We are trying to create a database of explosive materials and are trying to find the methodology of terrorists through an analysis of this database, through artificial intelligence(AI). The analysis will also help in training officers of the state ATS and crime branches,” the officers mentioned.
