S Jaishankar made the remarks whereas addressing the Indian neighborhood members

Abuja, Nigeria:

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday stated that India as we speak is happy with its traditions, its tradition, and its historical past as he underlined that there are only a few civilisations who’ve survived as a contemporary nation and “we are one of them”.

Mr Jaishankar, who arrived in Nigeria after attending the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Uganda, made the remarks whereas addressing the Indian neighborhood members.

“We are today sending a message to the world, that this is also an India, which is proud of its traditions, of its culture, of its history,” stated Mr Jaishankar, who’s right here on his first go to as External Affairs Minister.

The minister stated that on the earth there are only a few civilizations, who’ve survived as a contemporary nation and “we are one of them.” He highlighted developmental actions in India, saying there’s a sense as we speak that India is being constructed and there’s a movement of funding.

On ties with Nigeria, Mr Jaishankar stated that the 2 sides have enterprise of about USD 12-15 billion and invited Nigerian traders to put money into India.

“There are many more possibilities because actually, Indian capabilities in many areas are growing very, very strongly. I would say, we’ve had a long record in pharmaceuticals but today India, for example, has become a big producer of medical devices, which was not the case earlier,” he stated.

Mr Jaishankar will co-chair the sixth India-Nigeria Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) together with his counterpart and meet with different leaders.

He may also inaugurate the third version of the Nigeria-India Business Council assembly, ship a speech on the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, work together with enterprise delegates and inaugurate a bust of Mahatma Gandhi.

He may also chair the regional convention of Indian heads of missions.

“India and Nigeria have traditionally enjoyed close and friendly relations. This is the external affairs minister’s first visit to Nigeria which will further consolidate bilateral relations between the two countries,” the MEA stated.
