The physique of an Indian Army soldier was discovered at Khuningthek village in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Sunday, officers stated.

He was recognized as Sepoy Serto Thangthang Kom of the Army’s Defence Security Corps (DSC) platoon at Leimakhong in Kangpokpi district, they stated.

He hailed from Tarung in Imphal West, officers stated.

According to officers, unidentified armed males kidnapped Sepoy Kom, who was on depart, from his dwelling round 10am on Saturday.

“An Indian Army soldier, Sep Serto Thangthang Kom (41), was abducted & later killed, by 3 unidentified miscreants, while on leave at Tarung, Happy Valley, Imphal West. He was deployed at DSC Platoon, Leimakhong, Manipur. He is survived by his wife & 2 children,” the Public Relations Officer (PRO) & Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, Nagaland, Manipur & Rest of Arunachal Pradesh wrote on X.

According to his 10-year-old son, who was the one eyewitness to the crime, three males entered their dwelling whereas his father and he have been engaged on the porch.

“The armed men placed a pistol on the Sepoy’s head and forced him into a white vehicle before fleeing the spot,” officers stated quoting his son.

“There was no news of Sepoy Kom till Sunday early morning. Around 9.30am, his body was found at Khuningthek village, east of Mongjam under Sogolmang PS in Imphal East. His identity was confirmed by his brother and brother-in-law who said the soldier had a single bullet wound on his head,” officers added.

Sepoy Kom is survived by spouse, daughter and son.

The final rites will probably be performed as per the desires of the household, officers stated, including the military has rushed a staff to help the bereaved household.
