In the first high school sports in the area since February, Indiana opened its season on the golf course, with both the boys and girls beating Norwin on Monday.
The girls scored a 21-stroke victory, shooting a combined 204 to Norwin’s 225 on the Victory Hill Golf Course in Elizabeth. All five place-holders on the Indiana team won their match, led by Match Medalist Ally Conrad’s 47, for a one-stroke win over Norwin’s #1, Jessica Bushik. Sara Kane shot a 49, Sydney Brice a 53, Hannah Reilly 55, and Jenny Todd 59.
Indiana plays today against Penn Trafford at the Indiana Country Club.
At the Country Club yesterday, the Indiana boys opened their season with a win, also over Norwin. It was a five-stroke win, with Indiana shooting a combined 196 to the Knights’ 201.
Danny Williams, Harrison Martineau, and Noah Montanez shared medalist honors, with each shooting one-over par 37s. Zach Eisenhower shot 38, Trevor Todd 41, and Alex Holuta 43.
Harrison Martineau and Trevor Todd are freshmen and yesterday was their first varsity match.
Indiana plays on the road at Greensburg Central Catholic today in Hempfield.
Also, in Heritage Conference golf, Blairsville defeated Saltsburg in an intra-district battle, 240-243, on Monday at Mannitto Golf Club in New Alexandria. Carson McCully led Blairsville with a 46, but the medalist was Saltsburg’s Braden Staats with a 42.
