India’s Motilal Oswal says operations unaffected by cyber incident

BENGALURU (Reuters) – India’s Motilal Oswal Financial Services mentioned on Monday its operations have been unaffected following a cyber incident final week.

The firm mentioned it had detected malicious exercise on the computer systems of some staff and remedied the difficulty inside an hour. The monetary providers firm didn’t present particulars of the assault.

“This incident has not affected any of our business operations and IT environment. It is business as usual,” the corporate mentioned in an emailed assertion to Reuters.

The breach was first reported final week by U.S. information web site TechCrunch.

LockBit, a cybercrime group which extorts its victims by stealing and releasing information except a ransom is paid, was accountable for the assault on Motilal Oswal, TechCrunch reported.

The group, first seen on Russian language-based cybercrime boards in 2020, has been detected all around the world, with organisations within the United States, India and Brazil amongst frequent targets, cybersecurity agency Trend Micro mentioned final 12 months.

Motilal Oswal providers round 6 million shoppers and had property of 1.27 trillion rupees ($15.30 billion) below its asset and wealth administration class as of Dec. 31.

Shares within the brokerage closed 4.5% decrease on Monday.
