Greco-Roman grappler Vikas received a bronze medal to take India’s tally to 4 on the second day of the Asian Wrestling Championships 2023 in Astana, Kazakhstan on Monday.

Vikas defeated China’s Jian Tan by 8-0 technical superiority within the males’s 72kg Greco-Roman class.

Vikas began his marketing campaign strongly with an 11-0 technical superiority win over Korea’s Ji-yeon Lee within the qualification spherical. However, Vikas suffered a 6-1 loss to Iran’s Sajjad Imentalab within the quarter-finals.

Vikas made the bronze medal bout after Sajjad Imentalab superior to the ultimate.

Three different Indian wrestlers – Sumit (60kg), Rohit Dahiya (82kg) and Narinder Cheema (97kg) – have been in rivalry for the medals. However, all three of them misplaced within the bronze medal match.

Sumit, who defeated Turkmenistan’s Umit Durdyýew by 9-0 technical superiority within the qualification, misplaced 10-0 within the quarter-finals to Kyrgyzstan’s world champion Zholaman Sharshenbekov, who went on to win the gold. In the bronze medal match, Sumit misplaced 14-6 to Japan’s Maito Kawana.

Meanwhile, Rohit Dahiya misplaced 5-1 to Iran’s Alireza Mohmadi within the bronze medal match. Rohit Dahiya had defeated Singapore Aryan Azman 12-4 within the first spherical, however misplaced 7-1 to eventual gold medallist Akylbek Talantbekov of Kyrgyzstan within the subsequent.
