Indonesian web series Pretty Little Liars was named the Best TV Format Adaptation (Scripted) at the ContentAsia Awards 2020.
“The show was commended for its characterization, storyline, casting and direction, which one judge described as ‘spot on for a high-quality local market adaptation’ that appeals to growing urban audiences. The adaptation was judged to be well thought through and the localization appropriate for Indonesia,” ContentAsia wrote in their official LinkedIn post.
Adapted from the popular American series of the same title, the show premiered in April and is screened via streaming service Viu in 16 countries, including Malaysia, Hong Kong, India and Egypt.
The series is set in a fictional city in Bali, Amerta, and tells a thrilling story of four teenagers who are left conflicted after their squad leader, Alissa, mysteriously disappears.
Directed by Emil Heradi, the series features the cast of Yuki Kato, Anya Geraldine, Eyka Farhana, Valerie Thomas, Shindy Huang and Wulan Guritno.

ContentAsia Awards honors content made in Singapore, India, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia.
Winners in other categories include Food Lore, an eight-episode series from HBO Asia that explores Asian-cuisine inspired stories, which was named the Best Asian Drama for a Regional/International Market. The series was made by Singaporean filmmaker Eric Khoo and the filming took place in Indonesia, India, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Indonesian filmmaker Billy Christian directed the third episode of the series, “Maria’s Secret Recipe”, which evolves around Indonesian culinary. Indonesian actors Putri Ayudya, Alexandra Gottardo and Dian Sidik starred in the episode.
Family adventure program Ed Stafford: Man Woman Child Wild received the Best Factual Entertainment Program award. It centers on adventurer Ed, wife Laura Bingham and their 20-month-old son living off-grid on a remote uninhabited island in Indonesia for one month. (gis/wng)
