NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi’s seventh Independence Day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort went on for 90 minutes, making it his third longest. ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ was the centrepiece of his speech. He also presented a broad outline for spurring India’s growth in diverse sectors and asserted that the coronavirus pandemic cannot halt the country’s march towards self-reliance. His shortest speech was in 2017 when he spoke for a little under an hour. His longest was in 2016, when he spoke for 94 minutes. Till 2015, the longest speech ever given by an Indian PM was in 1947, when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru spoke for 72 minutes. A look at the duration of some of the Independence Day speeches.
