The Jefferson College Performing Arts and Cultural Enrichment (PACE) series once again will offer a variety of entertainment options, organizers said.

Elke Overton and Joel Vanderheyden, the series coordinators, said more than two dozen performances are included in this year’s schedule. Some involve guest artists and others include performances by Jefferson College students or faculty.

The performances, some free and others that carry an admission fee, take place at the Fine Arts Theatre on the Hillsboro campus.

“We have different kinds of arts,” Overton said. “The series includes art gallery exhibits.”

Next on tap is the play “Clue: On Stage,” which runs today through Sunday.

Some performances will have a free master class offered in conjunction with them, including an Oct. 14 performance of The Improv Shop and the Oct. 28 concert by Ustad Shafaat Khan, an Indian classical musician. The free classes will be offered the afternoon of the performances.

“With the master classes, (the content and format) depends on the artist,” Vanderheyden said. “With The Improv Shop, they’ll work with students and community members on improv games.”

Khan’s master class will deal with instruments, Vanderheyden said.

“He plays sitar and tabla. He’ll give lessons on these instruments that are not common in this area,” he said.

Vanderheyden said another performance of note will be the March 17 Spring Jazz Showcase featuring Carmen Bradford.

“Fans of jazz and classical jazz will be interested (in Bradford),” he said. “She’s a Grammy-nominated artist, a vocalist with the Count Basie Orchestra.”

Overton said seating will be limited at performances due to continuing

COVID-19 pandemic concerns.

“Normally, the auditorium seats 300, but we’re limiting it to 150 for social distancing,” she said.

Season passes are on sale for $25 ($15 for students and seniors) and are available online at jeffcopace.ludus.com.

For performances that require an admission fee, individual advance tickets are available ranging from $5 to $10 for general admission, $2 to $5 for students and senior citizens.

Tickets may be purchased online at jeffcopace.ludus.com or at the box office in the Fine Arts Building.
