WRENTHAM — Superintendent Paul Zinni and Athletic Director Gary Brown would like to share an update regarding King Philip Regional School District’s fall athletic season and band program.

The district’s scheduled start to the fall season on Monday, Sept. 21 will be delayed as the district awaits the next weekly public health report from the state regarding COVID-19 cases in the district’s communities on Wednesday, Sept. 23.

The district’s decision to postpone follows the joint guidance issued by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) on Aug. 18 due to COVID-19 concerns.

Dependent on the public health status of the communities of Wrentham, Norfolk and Plainville, the district will decide to either move forward with the fall sport season and the band program on Thursday, Sept. 24 or prolong the postponement.

The data shared each Wednesday will be evaluated by the district to identify possible COVID-19 trends and used to determine the best course of action for the fall athletic season and band program.

The district will also adhere to local public health, MIAA and DESE guidance.

“We will be using this data to guide us through our next steps as we navigate this unprecedented time and its effects on our fall season,” Superintendent Zinni said. “It is our goal to have our students participating in sports and band this season, but our top priority is the health and safety of our students. We will release further information regarding sports and band as soon as it becomes available.”
