KUALA LUMPUR: The police have detained 13 Vietnamese women working as guest relations officers (GROs) and six other foreigners while 29 local customers were issued with compounds following a raid at an entertainment outlet in the city.
Brickfields police task force personnel raided the outlet at Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park at about 2.45am on Saturday (Sept 12) following a tip-off.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Zailrulnizam Mohd Zainuddin@Hilmi said police also detained a 44-year-old local woman, believed to be the outlet’s manager.
“The foreigners detained were a Bangladeshi man, five Vietnamese men and 13 Vietnamese women working as GROs. Further investigation revealed that the outlet was operating without a proper business license,” he said.
When contacted on Sunday (Sept 13), he added that compounds were also issued to 29 local customers for violating the recovery movement control order (MCO).
“The foreigners detained are aged between 18 and 41 and have been remanded until Sept 25,” he said.
ACP Zairulnizam said pub or bar owners should not employ foreigners without proper permits.
“Stern action will also be taken against the owners of premises operating without valid licenses. We also hope the public will abide by the standard operating procedures during the recovery MCO period,” he said.
