The final two league matches of IPL 2021 on October 8 are set to be played concurrently. The initial schedule has Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on Mumbai Indians (in Abu Dhabi) at 3:30 PM IST. It is now set to be played alongside Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Delhi Capitals (in Dubai) at 07:30 PM IST. The decision was taken in the IPL Governing Council meeting on Tuesday.

The move, Cricbuzz understands, has caught at least one franchise by surprise throwing their plans awry.

The BCCI has also not given any official reason for the change in schedule. A release signed by Secretary Jay Shah said, “In a first for the IPL, the last two league matches before the VIVO IPL 2021 Playoffs will be played concurrently. On the last day of the league stage (08.10.2021) of the ongoing season, instead of having one afternoon match and one evening match, two matches (SRH v MI and RCB v DC) will be played simultaneously at 7.30 PM IST (6.00 PM GST).”

It was also announced that the GC came to the decision that the appointment of the two new IPL teams that will be part of the tournament from the 2022 edition onwards is scheduled to be announced on October 25. Right after that, the board will release the IPL Media Rights tender for the cycle 2023-2027.
