Red Lake Nation: People coming for work should be vaccinated
RED LAKE, Minn. (AP) — The Red Lake Nation in northern Minnesota is requiring all people who come to the reservation for work or other business purposes to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or show weekly test results. The Red Lake Tribal Council says the mandate does not apply to pregnant women, people with documented medical conditions, children under 12 and those with certain religious beliefs or practices. The resolution that passed on a 9-0 vote. Exceptions will not be approved for philosophical, political of scientific views. The tribe says those not following the vaccination mandate are required to be tested on a weekly basis and provide documentation showing the results.

Officials: Suspect hit by deputy’s SUV dies of injuries
MOUNDS VIEW, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say a male suspect died after a Ramsey County sheriff’s deputy used an SUV to hit him on Wednesday when he began shooting at officers who were investigating a domestic assault in Mounds View. The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that authorities were looking for the assault suspect when he began firing at approaching squad cars. The sheriff’s office said the suspect narrowly missed a Mounds View officer and a sheriff’s deputy, and the deputy feared for his life when he used his vehicle to stop the threat. He was taken to a Minneapolis hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Nurse who found bodies of businessman, wife sues for damages
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A home health nurse who discovered the bodies of a prominent Minnesota businessman and his wife in a murder-suicide case is suing their estate and seeking damages for emotional trauma. Lisa Ann Hayes walked in on a grisly scene in April 2019 at the Lake Minnetonka mansion of Irwin and Alexandra Jacobs. Investigators say Irwin Jacobs, a nationally known investor who made a fortune as a corporate raider in the 1980s and 1990s, fatally shot his wife and then himself amid health and financial troubles. Hayes is seeking unspecified damages in her lawsuit, claiming Irwin Jacobs’ actions were injurious to her health and “constituted willful, wanton and malicious conduct.”

Charges: Man “snapped,” killed 4, then left bodies in field
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — An Arizona man who allegedly told his father he “snapped and shot a couple of people” was charged Tuesday with murder, about a week after four bodies were found in an abandoned SUV in western Wisconsin. Antoine Suggs, 38, of Scottsdale, Arizona, faces four counts of second-degree intentional murder, without premeditation. Suggs is jailed in Arizona, awaiting extradition to Minnesota. Suggs’ father, 56-year-old Darren McWright, who also goes by the last name Osborne, has been charged in Wisconsin with four counts of hiding a corpse.

Defendant guilty in fatal shooting in Hibbing in 2018
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — A judge has found a defendant accused of fatally shooting one man and injuring another in Hibbing nearly three years ago guilty of murder and assault. Jerome Spann waived his right to a jury trial and opted for a judge to decide his case. A court trial ended in August and Judge Rachel Sullivan issued her ruling Monday. Prosecutors allege that Spann exited an SUV Christmas night of 2018 and fired into a group of people standing outside a residence in Hibbing. A man with whom Spann had a dispute, 34-year-old Jeryel McBeth, was fatally shot and another man was wounded.

Three Minnesota teens beaten with gun at Sioux Falls bar
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Police say three teenagers from Minnesota were beaten with a gun at a bar in Sioux Falls, which caused severe head injuries to one of the victims. police said. Sioux Falls police spokesman Sam Clemens says the assaults took place Sunday about 1 a.m. at an unnamed bar where two boys and a girl were beaten with a gun after an altercation with two men. The teens were transported to the hospital with injuries. The youngest teen, a 15-year-old boy, suffered serve head injuries that required staples. The other victims include a 16-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl. Their hometowns were not released. The suspects were not found.

Ex-probation officer convicted in real estate agent killing
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A former probation officer has been found guilty for her role in the kidnapping and killing of a Minneapolis real estate agent. Jurors in Hennepin County on Monday found 29-year-old Elsa Segura guilty of luring Monique Baugh to a bogus home showing in Maple Grove on Dec. 31, 2019, and aiding in the kidnapping and murder of the victim. Segura’s attorney, Amanda Montgomery, told jurors her client had no knowledge of a plot, and that the prosecution’s case was speculation. Investigators say two men convicted in the case were part of a scheme aimed at getting to Baugh’s boyfriend, who had a feud with a former business associate and drug dealer. Baugh’s boyfriend was shot and wounded during an altercation after Baugh was kidnapped.

Minnesota man with history of imitating police busted again
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minnesota man with a history of pretending to be a police officer is accused in federal court of falsely claiming to be a federal agent. Authorities said in a complaint filed Friday that 52-year-old Reyel Devon Simmons, of Dodge Center, used the fake name “Rey Reeves” and regularly held himself out as a federal agent on social media. He had more than 10,000 followers on TikTok, including one woman from Georgia who began a romantic relationship with Simmons. The woman told investigators he regularly carried a handgun in a holster on his hip and carried a badge and law enforcement credentials. She was eventually alerted about the ruse by another TikTok user.
