Legendary sprinter and 8-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt on Monday said he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Bolt said he took a Covid-19 test on Saturday and the results came out positive. The Jamaican great also added that he is asymptomatic and has been advised home quarantine.

Usain Bolt’s positive Covid-19 test comes days after the Jamaican sprinter celebrated his 34th birthday. Bolt had reportedly arranged for a birthday bash wherein no social distancing guidelines were followed.

“Good morning everybody I’m confirmed of Covid-19. I did a test on Saturday,” Bolt said in a video shared on social media.

“[I’m] trying to be responsible so I’m going to stay in, and stay away from my friends. And also, I am having no symptoms, so I am going to quarantine myself. And will wait and see what is the protocol and how should I go about quarantining myself, from the Ministry of Health.

“Just to be safe, I have quarantined myself, and just to take it easy. Be safe over there. Alright, cool.”

Chris Gayle and Raheem Sterling attended Bolt’s birthday bash?

According to Daily Mail, the birthday party that was held on August 21 was attended by a host of big names.

Manchester City star Sterling, Bayer Leverkusen attacker Leon Bailey and cricket legend Chris Gayle are believed to have been in attendance.

Sterling’s season finished on August 15 when City were knocked out of the Champions League, and the team have been granted a delayed start to the 2020/21 season because of their European involvement.

Footage from the party showed Bolt laughing and dancing with his guests and even taking the microphone while speakers blared out an Adele song at the outdoor bash.

The guests also danced to the song Lockdown which was produced by Jamaican reggae singer Koffee in reference to the pandemic.

Bolt would be one of the most prominent sportsmen in the world to contract the coronavirus, after tennis star Novak Djokovic tested positive in June.
