AMSTERDAM — The Liberty ARC, the Montgomery County Chapter of The Arc New York, has been awarded $4,293 as part of the Community Health Outreach Project administered by the Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State. The funding will assist Liberty ARC to purchase iPads, protective cases, and applications for the agency’s Speech Language Pathology department, according to a news release.

The CHOP was established in January to assist individuals with disabilities of all ages, living within a defined 14-county region. The CHOP aims to provide access to supports to enable people to remain independent, increase their health status, and be active within their homes and communities. The CPANYS offers financial assistance that is otherwise unavailable to individuals with intellectual, developmental, and other significant disabilities, or to agencies on behalf of eligible individuals.

“We are thrilled to help Liberty ARC obtain the technology needed to improve the lives of the individuals they serve in Montgomery County,” said Project Director Cindy J. Morris of the CHOP at CPANYS.

Liberty ARC will use the funding to provide individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, receiving Service Location Protocol services through the agency’s Article 16 Clinic Services, with access to new technology to further their personal, therapeutic goals. The grant funds will be used to purchase three iPads, and three protective cases, as well as download a variety of applications. The iPads will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of speech therapy, and provide people with disabilities a new tool to gain independence, build relationships, increase communication, and improve social skills.
