Lipscomb University announced Wednesday that veteran executive Jeffrey Baughn has been hired as senior vice president of finance and technology.

Baughn essentially replaces Danny Taylor, who recently retired as LU’s CFO. According to a release, the addition of Baughn comes as part of a restructuring of Lipscomb’s finance operations. Darrell Duncan, previously associate VP of finance, has been promoted to VP of finance to help lead the financial and accounting services area.

Baughn served the past 30 years in various leadership roles at IBM, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Andersen Consulting. From 2011 to 2017, he was a vice president within the financial services sector at IBM. He was responsible for a $400 million portfolio of strategic IT outsourcing relationships with Fortune 500 financial services companies.

Baughn also once served as a partner at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Atlanta. He helped in the expansion of a fledgling business process outsourcing practice that provided finance and accounting, human resources, procurement and real estate outsourcing services.

Most recently, Baughn and his two sons established family-owned and operated Atlanta Motor Gallery, which caters to purchasers of previously owned high-end vehicles.

Baughn earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business management from Harding University.

“Jeff brings a unique perspective to this role with his experience that is not the typical resume you might have for a chief financial officer,” Randy Lowry, Lipscomb president, said in the release. “But in this time of change both at Lipscomb and in higher education, what he brings to [the university] is even more significant with his vast experience in the business side of organizations. Jeff has the ability to quickly understand an organization’s challenges and bring innovative solutions to the table. He will be adept at bringing an outside perspective to develop long-term strategies and proposed solutions for the future.”
